Our Professional Sod Installation Process

Installing a new lawn is an investment in your property’s value and curb appeal. To ensure the best results, we follow a rigorous, multi-step process designed to promote deep rooting and long-term health.

Before and After professional sod installation process - Orlando Florida
1

Vegetation Control & Preparation

The foundation of a healthy lawn is the removal of existing invasive species.

  • Application: We apply commercial-grade round up to eliminate existing weeds and grasses.
  • Timeline: This phase typically takes 2–3 weeks and includes multiple applications.
  • Why it matters: Skipping this step risks "weed migration" through your new sod. While no installer can guarantee a 100% weed-free future, this preparation significantly reduces the likelihood of old weeds resurfacing.

Note: We strongly advise against rushing this phase, as it is critical for the longevity of your new turf.

2

Removal & Grading

Once the old vegetation is eradicated, we prepare the soil bed.

  • Excavation: Using specialized equipment (sod cutters or tillers), we remove the top layer of debris to a depth of approximately 2 inches.
  • Grading: We meticulously level the area to ensure proper drainage and a seamless fit with your existing landscape features.
3

Precision Installation

"Sod installation is a craft that requires more than just laying grass."

  • Quality Assurance: Every pallet is inspected upon delivery. If the sod does not meet our high standards, it is not installed.
  • Staggered Placement: We install each piece like a puzzle, staggering the seams and making precision cuts to fit the unique contours of your property.
4

Essential Post-Installation Care

New sod is vulnerable to stressors. To protect your investment, the following steps are mandatory:

  • Insecticide & Fungicide: We recommend a professional application within 24–48 hours of installation to prevent pests and fungi from compromising the root system.
  • Irrigation Schedule:

Week 1: Water daily for 60 minutes. We recommend watering in the evening (7:00 PM – 8:00 PM) to ensure deep soil penetration and limit evaporation.

Week 2 & Beyond: Transition to a standard schedule of 2–3 times per week.

Note: Irrigation will vary depending on the season and weather. Please speak to us to make sure we advice correctly depending on the season.

Our Commitment

We refuse to cut corners by sourcing cheap turf from high-volume, low-quality farms. Our proven methodology ensures that your lawn remains lush and healthy regardless of the season.

How long do I water?
Watering is dependent on season, shade and temperature. Ask our experts for instructions on watering your new lawn based on current conditions.

Orlando Lawn Care Calendar

Spring: The Wake Up

  • Fertilizer: Apply a slow-release nitrogen fertilizer to jump-start growth as dormancy ends.
  • Irrigation Check: Turn sprinklers back to 2x per week. Inspect heads for coverage.
  • Weed Control: Apply pre-emergent herbicide to stop crabgrass before it starts.

Summer: Protection Mode

  • Blackout Dates: No nitrogen fertilizer allowed (June 1 - Sept 30) in Orange/Seminole Counties to protect waterways. Use Iron for green color instead.
  • Chinch Bug Watch: Look for yellow patches near sidewalks. If grass pulls up easily, treat immediately.
  • Fungus Risk: Do NOT water in the evening. Wet grass overnight causes Gray Leaf Spot fungus.

Fall: Root Health

  • Winterizer: Apply a high-Potassium fertilizer (the last number on the bag, e.g., 0-0-20) to strengthen roots for winter.
  • Watering: Reduce irrigation frequency as days get shorter.
  • Pre-Emergent: Apply now to prevent winter weeds like Poa Annua.

Winter: Dormancy

  • Mowing: Reduce mowing to every other week. Raise the blade height to protect the roots.
  • Watering: Reduce to 1x per week. Too much water in cold weather promotes Large Patch Fungus (brown circles).
  • No Fertilizer: Do not fertilize dormant grass; it cannot absorb nutrients and weeds will eat it instead.
